Frequently  Asked  Questions

Q: How long does an MRI examination take?

A: MRI scans typically take 25-45 minutes. Scans requiring the infusion of contrast agent require an additional 15-25 minutes.  We request you that you show up for your appointment 10-15 minutes early for the paperwork and medical questionnaires.

Q: What will I experience while having an MRI?

A: To conduct the MRI study, a technologist will assist the patient onto a padded, moveable scanning table. The table and patient are positioned inside the opening of the MRI scanner. The patient is easily observed by the technologist throughout the entire study, and the patient is able to speak with the technologist at any time. The patient is only required to remain as still as possible during the exam.  The patient will not feel anything unusual. A variety of thumping and humming noises will be heard during the scan. This is normal and is a sign that the exam is proceeding as required. After the exam, the patient may resume all normal activities.

Q: How do I prepare for my MRI exam?

A: In the days before the MRI scan, you may follow all normal routines, such as eating and taking regular medication. Immediately prior to the MRI scan, the technologist or physician will provide an explanation of the MRI process. You will be asked to remove any metal objects, such as jewelry or non-permanent dentures. Any metal object might be attracted to the MRI scanner's magnet, and thereby hinder the procedure. Bank and credit cards are also restricted from the scan rooms, as the magnetic field could erase the information contained on them. As a final precaution, you will be asked a series of questions to insure that there are no metal or electrical objects inside the patient.

Q: What can I bring with me to the MRI exam?

A: You may bring with you a CD or cassette of your favorite music, which our technologist can play on the specialized headset while in the MRI room. Besides bringing your own audio material, we provide access to local radio stations and to XM radio , which offers a choice of over 150 digital music stations. We suggest you bring calming music, as it will help you relax and hold still during the exam.

You may also bring someone to sit in the MRI room with you during the scan. Our Hitachi systems allow a friend or a loved one to sit right next to the scanner with you and speak with you or hold your hand.

Q: How long will it take to get my results?

A: Health Bridge Imaging uses a state-of-the-art Teleradiology system to send images directly to our radiologists from the computer. This allows us to get the results of your MRI exam potentially in the same day!  Although actual reporting time depends on the time of your exam and the day of the week, we will typically have results to your physician in less than 24 hours.
